Assumptions

How we estimate

The ranges are illustrative. They're conservative readings of publicly reported creator RPM data, and real RPM varies widely by channel, season, video length and ad suitability. Your YouTube Studio analytics beat any calculator.

  1. 1

    Pick a long-form RPM range

We start from a publicly reported RPM range for your niche with a mainly US audience, then scale it by your audience's country.
  2. 2

    Add Shorts separately

Shorts views are valued at a much lower, country-based Shorts RPM. They never earn more per view than long-form in this model.
  3. 3

Show a range, not a promise

Low and high ends are calculated separately. You see monthly and yearly figures, after YouTube's share and before any partner share or tax.

Sources disagree, sometimes by a lot. Self-reported blog figures run high, and data from real Studio accounts runs lower. Where they differ, we lean toward the lower figure. Last reviewed October 2026.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is RPM on YouTube?

RPM (revenue per mille) is what you actually receive per 1,000 views, after YouTube's share, across all views including ones with no ads. It is not the same as CPM, which is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is always lower than CPM, and it's the right number for estimating income.

Why does my audience's country matter so much?

Advertisers pay very different prices by country. Publicly reported data puts India's long-form RPM at a small fraction of the US figure, while the UK, Canada and Australia sit closer to the US. The same video can earn many times more per view from a US audience than from an Indian one.

Why do Shorts earn so much less than long-form?

Under YouTube's Partner Program terms, Shorts ad revenue is pooled and shared across creators by views, and creators keep 45% of their allocation, versus 55% of ad revenue on long-form videos. Reported Shorts RPMs are usually a few cents per 1,000 views, so a Shorts-heavy channel needs far more views for the same income.

Can a CMS partner increase my RPM?

Sometimes. A partner can add premium ad demand or recover revenue from re-uploads through Content ID, but there's no guaranteed uplift and it then keeps a share. Use our CMS vs AdSense calculator to see what uplift you'd need to come out ahead.
